Presidentess | 1972

Captured circa 1972, I named this bag Presidentess to celebrate Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman to campaign for the Democratic Party presidential nomination in 1972. Her slogan "Unbought and Unbossed" marked a groundbreaking moment. Through my 2021 photo of the Fox Theatre marquee lights, I highlight Chisholm's radiant influence, emphasizing her bright and shining presence. The bag's text, "If I was president," pays homage to the Pharcyde song, envisioning a world where anyone, like Chisholm, could contemplate their role as president of the USA.
Love is a powerful force, and Light symbolizes spiritual understanding and connects us all. Each bag carries the affirmation "Love Light" underneath, serving as a reminder that there's a Higher Power guiding and supporting us. I design bags with the intention of promoting the well-being of everyone.
